Texas Hunt Lodge guides will put you on some monster Trophy Red Sheep.  We have the very best selection of Iranian Red Sheep to be found anywhere in the world. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Red Sheep in Texas, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.

We typically let our hunters choose the method of hunting Trophy Red Sheep that they prefer. Hunters of Trophy Red Sheep can choose the Spot and Stalk method, Bow Hunting, Rifle Hunting, Black Powder, Safari Style Hunting, Handgun, as well as hunting from a Blind. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level, as well as hunters which have disabilities.

Our Red Sheep are from a herd of about 50 Ewes and 8-10 Trophy Gold Medal Rams. They do not mix with other Sheep species on the ranch to prohibit inter-breeding. The Red Sheep that we hunt typically start at the 30 inch mark and range up to the 36+ inch range, some of the largest Red Sheep in the World.

The Red Sheep is classified as a Hybrid Sheep, occurring naturally in the Alborz Mountains of Northern Iran.  The Red Sheep was sired by a Transcaspian Urial and Armenian Mouflon.  In Texas, many of our Red Sheep we hunt will look more like one or the other, depending on the ranch.  Some of our Trophy Red Sheep will have horns which sway further back behind the neck than others...Other Red Sheep which more resemble a Transcaspian Urial, will exhibit heavier mass and come in front of the neck.
The red sheep is a hybrid between the Armenian mouflon (Ovis gmelini gmelini) and the trans-Caspian urial (O. vignei arkal), which occurs naturally in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran.  The Iranian Red Sheep are found mostly on private ranches in Texas now.

Its offspring are fertile. As a hybrid, it exhibits characteristics of both parental species. The chromosome number varies from 54-58, the saddle patch and bib may be present or absent, and the neck ruff and horn configuration are variable.

The general coloration is light brown or tan, with individuals varying from very light grayish-brown to light reddish-brown. Underparts are white. Females are smaller than males and may or may not have horns.

Trophy Red Sheep will have horn lengths in the mid to upper 20 inch range and the Record Red Sheep will have horn lengths in the low to mid 30 inch ranges.
