The Elk is one of the largest species of deer and is one of the largest mammals in North America. Only the males have antlers, which start growing in the spring and are shed each winter. The largest antlers may be 4 ft long and weigh 40 lb.

A great trophy Elk can score anywhere from 350 to 450. The largest Boone and Crockett score is 455, recorded in 2006. The Elk you will hunt with Texas Hunt Lodge range from 400-450.
A mature Elk bull will weigh from 800 lb to 1,000 lbs. Elk range from 4-6 feet at the shoulder and can be as tall as 10 feet including antlers.
Texas Elk hunting usually takes place from September 10th until antler drop. Older bulls usually shed their antlers in mid February. Younger bulls can be hunted through the first early March. Bulls usually remain in rut until late November. Texas Elk Hunting in December and January is usually best because of the lower temperatures.
